You are

You took a truth serum And it told you you were sad It showed you the nature of locking doors And what we feel each time we turn the key The message we hear with the click “Remember… the time The story….” “You are not safe” “The world is scary” And it is You are predator And prey You are the wild deer running in fear And the wild boar trapped in a cage The timid rabbit hiding in a hole The bear ready to fight to the death to defend your cubs And then you saw you were nothing but an animal the social baboon the shamed and excitable dog looking for approval But you are also the squirrel or the bobcat And even if no one notices how gracefully you scale trees or bound from buildings or rocks How amazing your strength and agility You are nonetheless grand and beautiful And when you are sad you sing the most beautiful intricate loon song that was ever sung
